Brandy – Among the few artists to achieve mainstream success as a teenager and make smooth artistic transitions across a multi-decade career. The singer and actor emerged during the post-new jack swing era, specializing in pop-oriented R&B epitomized by her first two singles, "I Wanna Be Down" and "Baby" -- Top Ten crossover hits that made her debut, Brandy (1994), a multi-platinum smash. The title role on the popular sitcom Moesha, a chart-topping and Grammy-winning duet with Monica ("The Boy Is Mine," the longest-running number one female duet in Billboard chart history), and the multi-platinum follow-up Never Say Never (1998) all reaffirmed Brandy’s broad appeal through the end of the '90s. While she could have continued to crank out safe contemporary R&B as her acting career took precedence.

Dru Hill – An American R&B group, most popular during the 1990s, whose repertoire included soul, hip hop soul and gospel music. Released their self-titled debut album, produced by Keith Sweat, Stanley Brown, and Tim "Dawg" Patterson. The single "Tell Me" -- culled from the soundtrack to the film Eddie -- became a Top Five R&B hit and later went gold. Enter the Dru followed in 1998, peaking at number two on the Billboard album chart. Despite Sisqós solo success with "Thong Song,"

Toni Tony Tone - As a consequence, the trio created some of the richest ballads and most substantive dance floor grooves of their era. From 1988 through 1996, they placed a dozen singles in the Top Ten of Billboard's R&B/hip-hop chart, with three of them -- "Feels Good," "If I Had No Loot," and the Grammy-nominated "Anniversary" -- taken to the same heights of the Hot 100. Who? (1988), The Revival (1990), Sons of Soul (1993), and House of Music (1996), their four studio albums, each earned gold, platinum, or multi-platinum RIAA certifications.

Carl Thomas - With the single "I Wish" released in late 1999, topping the R&B charts for six consecutive weeks, creating strong interest. Emotional, his debut album was released on April 18, 2000. On the strength of this single, and the album's other singles, "Summer Rain", and the title track "Emotional" at #8 on the R&B charts, the album was certified platinum with over 1 million in sales. The hit song spent six long weeks at number- one on the US R&B chart and set the stage for his debut album “Emotional”.
