Hip Hop Reacts to the Death of Rapper Craig Mack

Mack was 47 years old

March 13, 2018

Rapper Craig Mack burst onto the scene in 1994's Project: Funk da World with the iconic single "Flava in Ya Ear." The album was just the second Bad Boy record ever released, behind The Notorious B.I.G.'s classic Ready to Die.

Mack passed away yesterday (March 12) in a hospital near his South Carolina home. Friends, including producer Alvin Toney, have told newspapers and media outlets that the rapper died of heart failure.

The Long Island native was a GRAMMY nominee for the single "Flavor in Ya Ear," which catapulted Mack into superstardom after his labelmate, Biggie, along with LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, and Rampage, stepped in for a star-studded remix.

Mack reportedly left the game in the mid 90s to become a minister in South Carolina, though he did release two albums after leaving New York, including 1997's Operation: Get Down and 2017's The Mack World Sessions. Mack is survived by his wife and two grown children. As news of his passing spread, friends and fans took to social media to offer their condolences. Below, see what Erick Sermon, Redman, Faith Evans, and more posted.
