Science Proves Cheese Exposed to Hip-Hop Has the Funkiest Flavor

Just a bit of A Tribe Called Quest makes your cheddar better

March 19, 2019

To be real honest with you all, most of our day was spent mashing together famous hip-hop names and the names of cheeses, like Bone Thugs-n-Havarti, Feta Wap, Andre Brie-Thousand, Method Manchego... okay, we'll stop.

Why, you may ask? Well, a new study out of Switzerland has proven that cheese exposed to non-stop hip-hop music is actually more flavorful than the same type of cheese treated to rock or classical music. Yeah, this is a real story, y'all.

Back in September, nine wheels of Emmental cheese were placed in separate containers and exposed to various types of music, including one that enjoyed a six-month loop of A Tribe Called Quest. Other cheeses were blasted with Led Zeppelin, pulsating techno music, and Mozart, while others were hit with all different kinds of tones and noises. Of course one lone wheel was left in silence.

Six months later, researchers assembled a panel of taste testers to determine which sounds resulted in the best flavored cheese. Turns out that it was the cheese with a steady diet of Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White that actually developed the funkiest flavor -- as if there was ever a doubt! The taste testers said the hip-hop cheese was the strongest in terms of both smell and taste.

Researchers explained that instead of using loudspeakers or headphones, they actually used mini transmitters to convert the music into energy that went directly into the middle of the aging cheese.

They say they now want to explore hip-hop's impact on cheese in greater detail. So, that got us thinking, what would certain hip-hop artists do to cheese? Like, would cheese exposed to Snoop by earthy and smokey? Would cheese blasted with non-stop Eminem be bitter and harsh? Would cheese treated to Usher just melt? Guess we'll just have to wait to find out!
