WHAT IS THE UNSIGNED SHOWDOWN?

For over 5 years now, the unsigned showdown has been the leading unsigned segment on all Hip-Hop commercial radio stations in the country. It’s an invitation to serious unsigned hip-hop artists, in the Tri-state & New England area, to put their best songs against other artist’s best songs, live on the On-Air Idiot Show on Hot 93.7 FM. Every week we play an unsigned song. That song will be posted on www.Hot937.com for a whole month. The listeners log on and vote for the artist of the month all month long. All “unsigned artists of the month” have a chance to perform at Underground Jam every March at the legendary Toads Place.

WHAT IS THE CRITERIA TO ENTER?

You must be an unsigned artist(s) from the Tri-state & New England area, seriously trying to make it in the music industry. The On-Air Idiot Show has the right to be selective. Once selected you might receive an email in advance or you might not…you should be checking the site to find out if and when you got your spot!

CAN AN R&B ARTIST ENTER?

Yes. BUT NO SLOW JAMS! The song needs to be up-tempo!

WHAT ABOUT A CALABO SONG?

We do not except large calabo songs. If it’s a calabo with someone on the chorus of the song or even one verse of the song, then that is acceptable. BUT Wu-Tang like, 3-8 rapper calabos are NOT acceptable. Also remember, if you win with a calabo song, the artists featured on the song are not the winners, whoever’s song it is becomes the winner.

WHEN IS THE UNSIGNED SHOWDOWN?

Saturday Nights on the On-Air Idiot Show during “The Hour That We Love” Midnight to 1am. The hype starts at midnight and the song is played at 12:20am. You will have to follow the progress on www.Hot937.com for the whole month.

HOW DOES VOTING WORK?

Voting is determined by actual votes from the listeners, done on www.Hot937.com key word IDIOTS.

HOW DO I WIN, AND WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO?

The computer will give a percentage of your online votes on www.Hot937.com. You have the whole month to receive those votes. The artist that receives the highest percentage of votes becomes the “Artist of the Month.”

Upon becoming “Artist of the Month” you are accepted into the Unsigned Showdown Hall of Fame forever! (check the link on this page). And of course, you will receive a performance spot at the next annual UNDERGROUND JAM …the biggest, best, and most prestigious Hip-hop show of the year every March!

WHAT DO I SEND?

Send us ONLY 1 CD. Make sure it has your full contact information and MYSPACE PAGE on the CD AND JEWEL CASE. It is very important that your contact info is on the CD itself as we usually throw the jewl case and cover away. If you have to use a Sharpie marker…so be it.

The CD should have 2 tracks ONLY.

Track 1: A RECORDED DROP FROM YOU
Let DJ Biggmann and K-dubasis Runnindis know who you are, what city/state you reppin’, WHO MADE THE BEAT, and of course why the listeners and judges should vote for you? Then introduce the song that is about to be played. (The drop should be no longer than 30 seconds and it can NOT have a beat behind it!)

Track 2: YOUR SONG
First off, make sure it is over an original beat. No jacked beats! Make sure it’s clean and the quality is up to the standards. In other words, make sure its radio ready. If its not, it goes in the garbage.

WHAT IS UNDERGROUND JAM?

It is an annual concert put on to celebrate the anniversary of the Unsigned Showdown on the On-Air Idiot show. The concert is formatted to give an artist a 10- minute performance opportunity if they become “artist of the month” via the Unsigned Showdown segment.

Some headlining acts in the past have been Guru from Gangstar, Sean Price, Pharoah Monch, Buckshot, Heltah Skeltah, Saigon, Joe Budden, Raekwon, Canibus and Talib Kweli. This event attracts all media in New England that has to do with Hip-hop. It also attracts the general public that routs for the independent artist.
