"I won’t be used as a publicity stunt and I think Kanye was a publicity stunt."

A$AP Ferg can see why Kanye West met with Donald Trump at Trump Towers yesterday (December 13th), but John Legend isn’t buying it. He appeared on the French program Clique, where he discussed his take on why Trump invited West in the first place.

“I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to [Trump] about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt and I think Kanye was a publicity stunt,” Legend said. “I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump. I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country, and I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people, and for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing.”

Legend’s and West’s families are close, and he even admitted that his friend’s behavior before being hospitalized in late November concerned him. From Legend’s tone and demeanor on Clique, that concern doesn’t appear to have ebbed in any way.

Legend may be disappointed but other rappers seem to be giving West some leeway about the meeting, even while his fans have been criticizing him. TMZ caught up with Common after working out, and asked about his take. “Kanye, that’s my brother,” he said. “That’s my family right there, you know. So he gon’ do what he choose to do.”
