John Legend is asking for the end of mass incarceration for non-violent drug offenders. The singer wrote an open letter to President Obama asking that before his term is over to use his “clemency and pardon powers to bring justice to the thousands of families of non-violent drug offenders.” Legend also praised the President for calling for federal agencies not to ask potential employees about their criminal history.

Legend has his own experience with cause, his mother struggled with depression and drug addiction which ultimately landed her behind bars.
